Under the Silver Tree holds writing competitions to further our mission of encouraging reading, writing and the love of literature. We acknowledge the continuous support of West Darling Arts.
For the purposes of our competitions *Western Region is defined as a resident of Far West NSW, the areas encompassed by Broken Hill
City Council, Wentworth Shire Council, Central Darling Shire and the Western Unincorporated Area.

Sat 24 June 2023 at the Art Exchange, 313 Argent Street, Broken Hill at 6 pm.
JUDGE: Robyn Sykes - a multi-awarded poet and performer.
FIRST PRIZE : $1,000
BEST ENTRY from the WESTERN REGION* $300 donated by West Darling Arts
BEST JUNIOR ENTRY $200 donated by West Darling Arts
HIGHLY COMMENDED $100
Word limit: 50 lines

2022 Short Story Competition
Judges Comments
Entrants in this competition will write a biography of a family member or friend who has spent a significant part of their life in the Western Region.
There are two sections:
one for individual authors
and another for collaboration
FIRST PRIZE - $500 (each section)
HIGHLY COMMENDED - $100 ( up to 5 for each section)
WEST DARLING ARTS PRIZE for writer aged 18 or under - $100
